Notary services

BASABAV offers in-person notary services at our New Brunswick office. Call before visiting so we can confirm availability and help you prepare.

01

What this service means

A notary public is authorized to perform specific notarial acts, such as taking an acknowledgment or administering an oath or affirmation. The notary verifies identity and completes the required notarial certificate; a notary does not provide legal advice or decide whether a document is legally sufficient.

03

What to consider

  • Bring the complete document and valid identification.
  • Do not sign in advance when the signature must be witnessed.
  • Ask the receiving organization which notarial act or certificate it requires.
  • Arrange any required witnesses before the appointment.

04

A clear three-step process

01

Call first

Confirm the document type, signer count, identification and availability.

02

Appear with your document

The signer must be willing, aware and properly identified.

03

Complete the act

The notary performs the proper act and completes the certificate.

05

Common questions

Can a notary give legal advice?

No, unless the notary is separately qualified and authorized as an attorney. You or the receiving organization must determine which form or notarial act is needed.

Should I sign before arriving?

Call first. Some acts require the signature to occur in the notary’s presence, while an acknowledgment may involve confirming a prior signature.
